History of the Trust

The Trust was established by Eva Maas in memory of her father Ernst Maas, who was a successful business man in pre war Berlin. Due to the political situation existing in Germany in 1938 it was decided to send his second youngest daughter Eva aged 15 to Britain and Eva remained in the UK , mainly in Scotland for the rest of her life.
After leaving school Eva decided to obtain an education which would qualify her to become a psychiatric social worker and she had to rely heavily on charitable trusts for funding to achieve her goal.

Eva’s experiences convinced her that education was vital and that young people who required assistance should be helped whenever possible. This aim and also a wish to give some perpetuity to the ideals that her father held, resulted in Eva setting up the Trust.

Following German reunification in 1990 Eva received compensation paid out to the family of Ernst in reparation for his property seized by the then regime during the war and these funds allowed Eva to establish the trust.
